It is obvious that when this was the law, it still was not the truth because they made sure that minorities got worse resources than the ones at the white schools. From the authors Anthony M. Russell III in an article titled “Historical Examination of the Segregated School Experience” from Society for History Education they stated,”It is well accepted that segregated schools were grossly underfunded and under-resourced, which certainly impacted student outcomes. How do we educate all children? (foreign born, American born, rich, poor, etc) In order to educate all children regardless of if they are foreign born, American born, poor, rich, or whatever else, we have to present equal educational opportunities for all. In order to do this we have to create a system where accommodations are readily available to every student regardless of who they are. This means we need to make education more equitable so that way it is more accessible. I believe that in Chapter 2 of the book that the Gary schools were designed very closely to this with the “Work-Study-Play” method because it challenges students in unique and fun ways. Public education in modern day has become an essential part of the United States of America’s education system for the youth especially and its people as a whole. With my group’s discussion of Chapter 1, we found that the overall theme of the Chapter is to highlight not only the importance of public education but also the difficulty that there was to get public education to become the norm on both a state and national level. Education is seen as unifying in the United States because it educates a society as a whole and gives everyone have an equal opportunity to learn. In an article featured on NYSUT ’s website there is a discussion about the importance of public schools being a unifying force in communities; the example given by the author is about Buffalo City Schools that at some point were on the verge of having their public schools turn into charter schools.   Hi everyone! My name is Dee Diaz, and I am a Photography and Education major in my senior year. One of my biggest interests is art and not just photography; I am also greatly interested in collage, painting, and experimental/mixed media work. Some of my favorite artists/inspirations include Nan Goldin, Duane Michals, Wes Anderson, and Tim Walker. Another area of interest that I have is writing, and I especially love poetry, science fiction, and horror. A few of my favorite literary artists/authors are R. L. Stine, John Green, and Robert Frost. The reason that I took this class is because as both a writer and an educator, I am always willing to learn more, especially about topics involving education.
